Dr. Ammar Safar

Dr. Safar is an American Board Certified ophthalmologist and a highly experienced consultant in vitreoretinal diseases and surgery. Dr. Safar is the Medical Director of Moorfields UAE and is currently based at Moorfields Eye Hospital Dubai. He undertook his medical post- graduate Georgetown University in Washington, DC, USA, where he also served as a Chief Resident.  In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Safar has undertaken research and clinical trials in areas such as diabetic retinopathy and age-related eye diseases, and published and presented extensively. Dr. Safar is also an Adjunct Professor of Ophthalmology at the Mohamed Bin Rashid University of Medicine and Health sciences in Dubai, UAE.

Dr. Avi Gurbaxani

Dr. Gurbaxani is a consultant Ophthalmologist, specialising in uveitis and inflammatory eye disease as well as medical retina diseases, such as diabetes, macular degeneration and retinal vascular disease. Dr. Gurbaxani is the chief of the Retina Service for Moorfields UAE and is currently based at Moorfields Eye Hospital Dubai. He has carried out research projects and clinical trials, and has regularly published and presented papers at global conferences.

Dr. Igor Kozak

Dr. Kozak is a renowned specialist in the comprehensive range of vitreoretinal surgical procedures including paediatric ophthalmic surgery. Dr. Kozak is the medical lead of Moorfields Eye Hospital Abu Dhabi, where he is currently based. He undertakes advanced surgical procedures and has pioneered various retinal laser techniques. He has extensively researched, undertaken clinical trials, published and lectured around his specialist areas of interest.

Dr. Miguel Morcillo

Dr. Morcillo is a consultant ophthalmologist, specialised in cornea, cataract and refractive Surgery. Dr. Morcillo is the chief of cornea service for Moorfields UAE and is currently based at Moorfields Eye Hospital Dubai. He helped develop many of the refractive treatments offered today, such as LASIK, LASEK, ICLs and multifocal IOLs. His research efforts include surgical topics and outcomes such as Ultrathin LASIK, Keratoconus screening, ICLs and multifocal IOLs, among others.

Dr. Osama Giledi

Dr. Giledi is a highly experienced consultant ophthalmologist who specialises in cornea, cataract and refractive surgery at Moorfields Eye Hospital Dubai. In addition to his clinical commitments, Dr. Giledi has extensive experience in teaching and training, he is a noted presenter and has an extensive body of research published in peer-reviewed scientific journals.

Dr. Luisa Sastre

Dr. Sastre is an experienced ophthalmologist, specialising in medical retina and cataract surgery at Moorfields Eye Hospital Dubai. Dr. Sastre has special interest in retinal diseases and diabetes-related disorders. In addition to her practice, she has undertaken medical teaching and charitable activities in many countries around the world

Dr. Salman Waqar

Dr. Salman Waqar is an experienced consultant ophthalmologist specialising in the treatment of adult glaucoma and cataracts at Moorfields Eye Hospital Dubai. Dr. Waqar’s research interests include optimising patient outcomes with minimally invasive surgery, using virtual reality simulation to investigate surgeon performance and the development of innovative surgical instruments to improve patient safety. 

Dr. Syed M.Asad Ali

Dr. Ali is a consultant paediatric ophthalmologist with extensive experience in the management of all paediatric eye conditions including congenital eye diseases, cataract and squints. Dr. Ali is the chief of paediatric ophthalmology service for Moorfields UAE and is currently based at Moorfields Eye Hospital Abu Dhabi. In addition to his practice, he has published original research and teaching including a post as an assistant professor of ophthalmology at the Pakistan Institute of Ophthalmology.

Dr. Gus Gazzard

Dr. Gazzard has been UCL reader in ophthalmology (Glaucoma Studies) at the Institute of ophthalmology, University College London and is currently director of the Glaucoma service at Moorfields London. He has special interest in the drop-free treatments of glaucoma with current research into selective laser trabeculoplasty (SLT) and Minimally Invasive glaucoma procedures (‘MIGS’).

Dr. Daniel Gore

Dr. Gore is a consultant ophthalmic surgeon and director of refractive surgery at Moorfields Eye Hospital London. He additionally leads the early keratoconus and corneal cross-linking service. He combines his clinical work with academic sessions investigating novel iterations in combined cross-linking with laser vision correction.

Prof. Ziad Bashshur

Prof. Bashshur is an ophthalmologist specialising in medical and surgical Retina. Prof. Bashshur is currently a tenured professor and vice-chairman of ophthalmology at the American University of Beirut and a visiting doctor at Moorfields Eye Hospital Dubai. He has undertaken research in retinal diseases and has published over numerous research papers on macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, vascular diseases of the retina and retinal imaging.

Dr. Sajjad Ahmad

Dr. Ahmad is a senior consultant ophthalmic surgeon, specialising in Cornea, External Eye Diseases, Cataract and Refractive Surgery. Dr. Ahmad also holds an Honorary Associate Professor position at the UCL Institute of Ophthalmology. He currently practices at Moorfields Eye Hospital London & Lead for Experimental Medicine.

Dr.Saleh Saif Al Messabi

Dr. Al Messabi is one of the most esteemed Ophthalmologists in the region and a pioneer when it comes to new developments in his field. He was presented the Best Surgical performance Award by Health Authority of Abu Dhabi and recipient of the prestigious Sheikh Rashed Al Maktoum award for Scientific outstanding. He is one of the first 2 surgeons to introduce Femto-Cataract surgery to the Middle East in early 2012 and new types of multifocal intraocular lenses.

Prof. Chris Lloyd

Professor Lloyd is a consultant paediatric ophthalmologist at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children in London and lead clinician for ophthalmology at GOSH. Prof.Lloyd also holds an honorary Chair from the Manchester Academic Health Science Centre, University of Manchester. He has a longstanding research interest in the diagnosis and management of childhood cataract and has collaborated in the development of targeted genetic testing to improve precision of diagnosis of children with this condition

Dr. Ehab Al Rayes

Dr. El Rayes is professor and chairman of department of ophthalmology at Institute of Ophthalmology in Cairo. Dr. El Rayes actively joins and participates as primary investigator in clinical trials nationally and internationally, with special interest in diabetic retinopathy, retinal detachment and pediatric retinal surgery.

Dr. Faisal Fayyad

Dr. Fayyad is a highly experienced vitreo-retinal surgeon at the Jordanian Hospital in Amman. Dr. Fayyad served at the Jordanian ministry of health hospitals and the King Hussein Medical Center as well as at the Jordan University Hospital. In addition, he is an examiner at the Jordanian Board of Ophthalmology.

Dr. G. Baker Hubbard

Dr. Hubbard specialises in vitreoretinal surgery, his practice includes both adult and pediatric vitreoretinal disorders. Dr. Hubbard is currently the director of fellowship training in vitreoretinal surgery at Emory University. He is an active member of the ophthalmology community and has served on committees for the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Society of Retina Specialists and the Association of University Professors of Ophthalmology.

Dr. Jorge Navalon

Dr. Navalon is an ophthalmologist, regional medical director and member of the Medical Committee at Clinica Baviera in Spain. Dr. Navalon has extensive experience in intraocular surgery including cataracts and presbyopia surgery and implantation of ICL / IPCL phakic lenses. He is also experienced in refractive surgery, intracorneal ring segment implants and corneal cross-linking for the treatment of keratoconus.

Dr. Julio Baviera

Dr. Baviera is a pioneering ophthalmologist, specialising in refractive surgery and the treatments of cataracts. Dr. Baviera is the founder and Medical Director at Baviera Group.He founded the Baviera Group (Clínica Baviera Spain and Italy and Care-Vision Germany and Austria), an ophthalmic institution with 86 centers and 209 ophthalmologists.

Dr. Julio Ortega-Usobiaga

Dr. Usobiaga is an ophthalmologist at the Baviera Clinic in Bilbao, Spain, specialising in Refractive and Cataract surgery. Dr. Usobiaga is an accredited assistant professor doctor, associate professor doctor and private university professor in a number of leading universities in Spain.

Dr. Ken Nischal

Dr. Nischal is the division chief, pediatric ophthalmology, strabismus, and adult motility professor of ophthalmology at the University of Pittsburgh, School of Medicine. He is also the vice chair, department of ophthalmology in addition to being the Associate Director of International Business – Ophthalmology & the director of the paediatric program development at the UPMC Eye Center.

Prof. Mark Gillies

Professor Gillies is a clinician-scientist and the director of research at Save Sight Institute, University of Sydney and Group Leader of Macular Research Group. The Macula Research Group's (MRG) clinical research unit has conducted several major investigator-initiated randomized clinical trials, including the first on intravitreal injections for any ophthalmic disease. His lab has interests in retinal metabolism, fibrosis and therapeutics.

Dr. Michael Smith

Dr. Michael Smith Dr. Smith is a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon, specialising in the treatment of cataract and glaucoma. As well as extensive experience in all aspects of general ophthalmology. Dr. Smith has a keen interest in communication and shared decision making in glaucoma. He currently practices at the West of England Eye Unit, Exeter, UK.

Dr. Mohamed Sayed

glaucoma and cataract surgeon at New Vision Eye Center, Florida, USA. He is dual fellowship-trained in pediatric ophthalmology and glaucoma at the world-renowned Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, where he also held the position of Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology and trained residents and fellows on cutting-edge surgical techniques. Dr. Sayed is an esteemed researcher, with numerous publications, presentations, book chapters and invited lectures to his credit.

Prof. Prithvi Mruthyunjaya

Prof. Mruthyunjaya, MD, MHS is an associate professor of Ophthalmology and director of the ocular oncology service at the Byers Eye Institute at Stanford Univeristy. He has published extensively in the field of ocular oncology, ophthalmic imaging, and complex retinal surgery. In addition, he holds leadership positions in the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the Retina Society, and the Intenational Society of Ocular Oncology.

Prof. Quan Dong Nguyen

Dr Nguyen is currently a professor at Byers Eye Institute, California, USA. Dr. Nguyen is known for his innovative work in early proof-of-concept, first-in-human clinical trials to evaluate potential pharmacotherapeutic agents for retinal vascular and uveitic diseases. He and his team were among the first clinician scientists in the world to evaluate aflibercept for neovascular AMD and ranibizumab for diabetic macular edema (DME).

Dr. Rohit Shetty

Dr. Shetty is a consultant cornea and refractive surgeon and a clinician scientist with a keen interest in keratoconus and corneal ectatic disorders. Dr. Shetty is the chief mentor for the dual academic program (PhD & Clinical Fellowship) at the Maastricht University in The Netherlands and Narayana Nethralaya Eye Institute in India, where he currently practices.

Prof. Stanislao Rizzo

Prof. Rizzo is an Associate Professor at the University of Florence. He is also the Head Physician of the Eye clinic at Azienda Ospedaliero Universitaria Careggi Firenze. Dr. Rizzo has published over 200 articles on vitreoretinal diseases and 10 chapters in vitreoretinal books and a distinguished global lecturer.

Dr. Tamer Mahmoud

Dr. Mahmoud is a professor of ophthalmology at Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine. Dr. Mahmoud has developed many surgical techniques including the first human autologous retinal transplantation, the injection of subretinal air to displace submacular hemorrhage and the ILM retracting door technique for macular holes. In 2019, he developed the nanovitreoretinal surgery platform.

Dr. Thomas Sherman

Dr. Sherman is an Ophthalmologist with clinical interest in glaucoma. Dr. Sherman’s work has been based mainly in the South West Peninsula region, which includes various prestigious eye units such as the Royal Eye Infirmary in Plymouth and the West of England Eye Unit in Exeter. He is currently undertaking a research fellowship under the supervision of Dr. Sheng Lim at St Thomas’ Hospital in London.

Prof. Vishali Gupta

Prof. Gupta is a professor of ophthalmology at the post graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research Chandigarh-India. Her specialty is in medical retina with interest in intraocular infections and inflammations in ocular tuberculosis (TB). She is a sought after speaker and has delivered more than 800 invited lectures and conducted several instruction courses at various global meetings.

Prof. William Freeman

Prof. Freeman is a Vice Chair of the department of Ophthalmology at UCSD, Distinguished Professor of Ophthalmology and Director of the UCSD Jacobs Retina Center. He is a clinician scientist and has received over 25 years of NIH grant support. He currently performs research in Retinal Imaging and Drug Delivery and is working on a retinal prosthesis. He has published over 600 Peer Reviewed Papers.

Dr. Carlos Pavesio

Dr. Pavesio is a consultant ophthalmic Surgeon for the medical retinal service as well as the director of the fellowship programme at Moorfields Eye Hospital London. Dr. Pavesio is also an honorary Clinical Lecturer and Uveitis theme leader for the Biomedical Research Centre, Institute of Ophthalmology, London and Honorary Consultant Ophthalmologist at St Thomas’s Hospital in London.

Dr. Arif O. Khan

Dr. Arif O. Khan MD is Consultant in Pediatric Ophthalmology & Strabismus and in Ocular Genetics at Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi and Professor of Ophthalmology at Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine. Previously, until the end of 2015, he was Senior Academic Consultant at the King Khaled Eye Specialist Hospital, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, and Senior Scientist at the King Faisal Specialist Hospital & Research Center, also in Riyadh.

Mr. Alexandar Salazar Aguirre

Mr. Aguirre is a an optometrist currently practicing at Moorfields Eye Hospital Dubai. Mr. Aguirre has extensive experience in refractive surgery, low vision patients and specialty contact lenses. His further fields of interests include research, investigations and electro diagnostic procedures.

Mr. Zachary Cairns

Mr. Cairns is a an Optometrist currently practicing at Moorfields Eye Hospital Dubai. His fields of interests are specialty contact lenses, ocular imaging and glaucoma. Having built and refined his skills in refraction, low vision (adult and paediatric) and Contact lenses, he progressed to gain invaluable experience in monitoring Cataract, glaucoma and keratoconus.
